Kintsugi floor

Remodel a concrete floor with gold accent is actually the brilliant idea Annabelle Brun from studio annabelle.b has had while remodeling her guest house Les Penates home, located in Reims (yes you read that well, in the region where the Champagne is produced). And the result is a beautiful and unique Kintsugi floor.

What is Kintsugi?

The word Kintsugi comes from the Japanese Kin (gold) and Tsugi (joint), and literally means: joint with gold. This ancestral technique, discovered in the 15th century in Japan, consists in repairing an object by highlighting its "wounds" with real gold powder, instead of trying to camouflage them.

The art of Kintsugi is part of the current of wabi-sabi, which invites to admire and highlight the beauty of imperfections. Broken porcelains and ceramics are thus repaired but their scars remain visible.

Healed, then honored, the broken object assumes its past and paradoxically becomes more resistant, more beautiful and more precious than before the shock.

If gold is mainly used to sublimate the scars of broken objects, it is also possible to use other metals such as silver, the technique is then called Gintsugi. But also to use the lacquer alone, without adorning it with artifices, it is then a question of Urushi-Tsugi.

The art of Kintsugi is divided into six stages: breaking, assembling, waiting, repairing, revealing, sublimating.

What a Kintsugi floor would bring to your home?

With her Kintsugi floor, Annabelle Brun has managed to bring that touch of originality and magic to the most common floor type, to elevate it as the focal point in a room and that, dear radiant reader, is a true style performance.

And the possibilities are endless: imagine a colored concrete Kintsugi floor…

Lucky Bamboo

Lucky You!

You have just received a lucky bamboo, and you've been told it will attract a good Feng Shui energy. But you wonder where would be the best places for your Lucky Bamboo in your home.

Firstly, deciding where to put your lucky bamboo in your home will be easier once you've decided what you wish to accomplish with this valuable feng shui plant.

Without question, the best places for a lucky bamboo plant is the wealth luck (southeast) and health luck (east) sectors.

Both sectors are governed by the wood element, so plants are ideal activators for these sectors.

...In the kitchen?

- A lucky Bamboo in kitchen represents happiness thus if your kitchen falls in the southeast or east sector, it is actually a great place for your lucky bamboo plant.

If the kitchen isn't in either of these sectors, determine the room's east or southeast corners and place the plant in one of those corners.

You can also place this plant in areas where stagnant chi may be pooling, such as above cabinets or even on top of a refrigerator.

If your kitchen dining table is located in either sector you can use a lucky bamboo plant for a centerpiece.

A three-stalk arrangement works in this room since it represents happiness, long life, and wealth.

Both five stalks and seven stalks symbolize health, which is a great energy for a kitchen, don't you think?

...or in the bathroom?

- The wastewater of a bathroom generates negative chi (sha chi) but a lucky bamboo neutralizes it. According to Feng Shui principles, plants in the bathroom can neutralize the water since wood exhausts water.

Thus, a shelf over the toilet is a great location for the plant. Place the bamboo arrangement on the back of the toilet for the best placement. A clay pot will add more control over the waste water since the earth element destroys water.

Secondly, set the plant on a coffee table to prevent chi energy from accumulating. A rectangle or square coffee table often becomes an obstacle and prevents chi energy from moving freely around the room. The plant will attract the chi energy to lift above the coffee table and move freely.

An end table or a sofa table are also good choices for placement options.

Thirdly, a lucky bamboo centerpiece in a dining room promotes abundance. Place your bamboo plant as the centerpiece for the dining table so the energy it attracts is doubled.

The dining room is the seat of the family abundance. Placing a lucky bamboo plant in this room is an auspicious addition.

Finally, an appropriate feng shui dining room design will have a mirror that reflects the dining table to double the abundance.

Disclaimer : don't put your lucky Bamboo in the bedroom as Feng shui principles state that the yang energy of plants is too powerful for a room dedicated to rest and relaxation. Avoid placing any plant in the bedroom.

India Mahdavi

"I dream in color"

India Mahdavi who once said “I dream in color” is an Iranian-French architect and designer.

India Mahdavi’s design curve ligns are super sensual and she even accentuates that feeling by using velvet.

Her very soft signature color palette of salmon, peach pink or parm, that she associates with a bright lightly mustard yellow and a deep darker green, is joyful yet sophisticated.

Her rattan furniture are elegant and refined.

The overall look and feel of India Mahdavi 's design evokes indeed a soft and cosy dream.

Where can you see India Mahdavi design work in the world?

- At the Hotel du Cloitre in Arles and at the I Love Paris by Guy Martin restaurant at the CDG airport in France.

- At the Coburg Bar at London's Connaught Hotel and at the Sketch also in London.

- At the Monte Carlo Beach in Monaco.

- At the Rivington Hotel in Manhattan and the Townhouse Hotel in Miami in the States.

- And of course at Ladurée in Japan.

Until you visit those places you can purchase India Mahdavi Summer Vibes Home Collaboration with Monoprix, in Doha.

From that collaboration I choose some yellow bowls and plates, but I could have bought everything, and I must say what a vibe indeed, because it really makes any food pops and it also makes such a design statement on my table.

CHABI CHIC

To rise, accessories!

How to keep your interior up to date and how to upgrade the overall look and feel of your home? Accessories!

Just like what you will do with new shoes, belt or scarf, you can add a ton of personality to your place through some touches of textures and colours.

2020 marks the confirmation of several earth centred design and decoration trends, the global concept being to blur the boundaries between the outside and the inside, to open your mind and embrace diversity through ethnical and ethically sourced products and designs.

Upcycling being the strongest trend within this global concept.

Instead of a composition of a classical bunch of colourful flowers, think more of huge branches of a tree with some burgeons and just bloomed flowers here and there, or even of a bunch of dry wheat, but most of all, try to get seasonal and locally grown plants.

Rattan baskets, woven rattan furnitures, bouclette wool ottomans, wood (even plywood for the kitchens as it is strong, cheap and most of all not armful for the environment) and washed linen are some of the trendiest textures.

Deep green or blue, black, pale pink, curry yellow, and most of all, terracotta, are currently the dominating colours.

To create a fresh and sophisticated surprise among all those very grounded textures and colours, try to incorporate some white ceramic associate with gold just like Chabi-Chic did with its bowls and salad bowls and you instantly get a totally renewed and contemporary interior. Plus, on my view, stripes are classic and always appropriate, especially in a decor.

The Ourika Gold Marsala collection Chabi-Chic’s bowls is the perfect interpretation of the modern feeling that you can get, and as they are completely traditionally handmade and paint in Morocco, each of them is unique.

If you are currently visiting or plan to visit Marrakech, pop to one of the five Chabi-Chic stores and concept store, but if not, you will be surely delighted to know that Chabi-Chic is selling in more than 200 stores in the world.

You can contact Chabi-Chic to know where a Chabi-Chic seller is located in your town or you can purchase the Ourika Gold collection bowls and much more at Chabi-Chic directly online by clicking on the bowls set.
